Here’s a secret of the universe: there are always basics of everything. If you want to be physically fit, you have to do cardio and strength training. If you want to be a good cook, you have to learn how to chop, mix spices and know how flavors complement one another. And if you want to be good at reading and understanding the Bible, there are basic skills you need to learn as well.

In this episode, we’ll unpack just what those fundamental skills are, through Nicole’s ‘Alive Method,’ by asking four basic questions of every passage of Scripture and providing three little hints for knowing what you are reading and three tips on how to observe what you are actually reading in the Bible.

On approaching the Bible:

“Different doesn’t mean we can’t understand it”

On actually changing:

“Once you know your why, then you can get into your how

On entering into the Word:

“100% of the time, when I’m really reading the Bible to understand it, I will have a question. Let’s get comfortable with being uncomfortable because we don’t know the answers to everything.”
